** 3 REASONS WHY GIRLS SHOULD EAT CARBS WHEN THEIR FOCUS IS TO LOSE WEIGHT **
We’re talking about “real” carbs here for the most part, things like potato, rice, quinoa, buckwheat etc. with just a small smattering of carb heavy treats to keep you sane.
1) BECAUSE THEY FUEL YOUR WORKOUT
One of the most common weight loss mistakes is cutting down on the carbs to the detriment of your energy levels.
Have you ever tried the ultra low crab diet and felt flat, weak, slow, sluggish etc. Ever do that and then tried to exercise?
Yea doesn’t work so well.
It’s hard enough to get off your ass and make it to the gym when your body is already tired, and even if you do make it, you don’t give it 100%.
Keeping a decent level of carbohydrate in your diet will give you more energy to hit that morning or post-work workout hard, get significantly stronger, fitter and therefore healthier.
The better the workout stimuli (i.e. the harder you work) the bigger the reason for your body to change. If you’re selling yourself short in your training sessions because you haven’t fuelled yourself properly, your progress is going to be hindered.
Give yourself some energy; put it to good use in the gym, profit through accelerated results.
2) BECAUSE YOU WANNA GROW DAT BOOTY AND TING.
You want to lose weight but you don’t want to lose your shape. Literally nobody wants a pancake ass or a super skinny frame.
As we said in our last post about girls training, you need to be lifting weights to build the muscle that gives you that feminine shape, after all, glutes, thighs and triceps are muscles, not just places for you to store body-fat.
It is very hard to build muscle on a no carb/low carb diet. You need protein as the building blocks and carbs as the glue that makes them stick in all the right places.
Using other food groups to try and fuel this extra shapely muscle is far less effective and leaves you more likely to end up with that flat, straight up and down shapeless physique you don’t want.
3) BECAUSE THEY TASTE AWESOME.
The key part in all of this is that it’s a medium to long-term process, so sustainability is massively important. All your efforts count for nothing if after 3 months of eating 100% perfectly you get sick and tired of it, fall of the wagon, and gradually slip back to square one.
Very, very few people have the willpower to not eat delicious and “naughty” foods for the rest of their life.
Fortunately, very, very few people need to have the willpower to do that.
You can totally build a sustainable diet that includes the things you love to eat as well as the things you need to eat to help keep you on track, feeling free and not restricted, and ultimately making progress for the foreseeable future.
You just need to account for it. So, if you do eat 215 calories in the form of a Snickers bar (guilty), instead of 215 calories from sweet potato, but that is the one thing that makes this whole thing easier and more likely to be continued tomorrow and the day after, then that is perfect.
As long as you account for it and stay in a calorie deficit it’s not a big deal.
It is a big deal when you eat all your calories from Snickers mind.
